Psephology is the science of election prediction. From previous votes and polls the future is disclosed. In this painting the choices of the heart are played out though the analysis of the past. With a nod to psychoanalytic method, the painting suggests that our future happiness is always being analysed according to the poll of happiness and the achievements of the past. A neutral mask or question hangs over the discarded items of antiquity. A statue without arms, an impotent individual: the past that cannot be changed, looks toward the open box of the future. The soul, with its single cyclopic eye, disembodied floats towards the left of the picture, hoping to see what cannot be seen, to know what success awaits.
