About the Picture

I think everyone of us sometimes wakes in the night as a child does, with the sense that something sinister lurks in the shadows of our bedrooms. The less light afforded the darker our fears. In the attic no light may enter. A face looks in blocking the light. Innocence is a blessing as it allows us the luxury of irrational fear, so much safer than the awful truth of rational danger. And sometimes the two are the same. The phantom upstairs is a bad idea that haunts the present. Vultures and archaeologists best use my bedside table.
